Local people had a chance to make their opinions heard over improvements to Helston’s public areas during a “walkabout” workshop.

More than 20 people, including town councillors, members of the public realm project board, members of Helston Business Improvement Partnership, Cornwall councillors, five students and a teacher from Helston College, walked through the town looking at potential ways of improving public spaces.

Martin Searle, town centre regeneration officer, said: “It went very well. We were lucky the weather was fairly kind to us, so we were able to get round in the dry.”

The groups met at The Clies on Meneage Street before walking from The Parade to Coronation Park, examining various public areas for potential development between now and 2030. The consultations will go towards drawing up a public realm framework, which Mr Searle said will provide “a plan for making improvements in the public area of the town,” and will also allow councillors “to make informed decisions about which project to go ahead with immediately” and to “assess various projects against a set of criteria.”

The council will be hosting drop in sessions, for the public to have their say on the public realm development, on December 5 and 6.
