Emergency repair works to newly revamped road humps in Falmouth’s Mongleath Road has been carried out this week, only days after the road was re-opened.

The road, which runs past St Francis and St Mary's schools had been closed to traffic throughout the half term week while long awaited repairs to both the carriageway and the humps were carried out. By the |end of last week, however, the diversion signs were back in place and workmen back on site.

There had been complaints that the road humps were too large, with Councillor Alan Jewell even raising the matter at a meeting of the town council, claiming they were to be ripped out and re-laid.

When quizzed though, Cornwall Council claimed the problem being redressed concerned the materials used and not the size. A spokesman said: “There was an issue with the material used in the humps – as a result the humps have been removed and are in the process of being redone – with the full cost of this being met by the provider of the material – so no cost to the council.”

With the repair work completed within a few days, the road was again re-opened in time for the start of the new working week, albeit with slightly smaller humps.
