The festive season truly comes to town Penzance this Saturday as the annual Penzance Christmas Lights Festival takes place.

The event on November 29 promises some special surprises - along with free parking in all the town car parks all day.

Where most towns have a single Christmas lights switch-on ceremony, Penzance has three, with the magic switch to illuminate Penzance set to be pressed by the Mayor of Penzance with help from the Big Dance Company’s World Champion Hip Hop Dance Team at Wharfside Shopping Centre, at 4.15pm.

The lights will be switched on at the Christmas tree at Humphry Davy Statue, Market Jew Street, at 4.30pm, and at Causewayhead, outside Causewayhead Furnishings, at 5pm.

There will be activities all day with a festive Christmas market in the town starting at 10.30am, with a variety of stalls selling local produce and crafts.

From noon onwards, there will be entertainment on Causewayhead, The Greenmarket and by the Humphry Davy Statue with Father Christmas making an appearance in his sleigh. There will be a carousel ride for the smaller children at The Greenmarket and facepainting at Queen’s Square.

A Victorian horse-drawn bus will run form The Greenmarket up and down Causewayhead, inviting people to experience who Christmas transport in the time of Humphry Davy.

Immediately following the Christmas lights switch-on will be the drawing of the winners of the grand Christmas lights raffle featuring great prizes donated by local retailers and businesses! Raffle tickets are one sale from the Penzance Town Council Office, Walkers Jewellers, Causewayhead and Pure Nuff Stuff, Egyptian House, Chapel Street, and the stall outside Lloyds Bank on Saturday.

The Penzance Christmas Lights Festival is the first of a series of Christmas festivities and events, including free parking, in Penzance to celebrate the town and what it has to offer.
