St Agnes volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew launched yesterday at around 2.30pm after reports of three people cut off by the tide at Porthtowan beach.
Volunteer crew members, Gavin Forehead, Jamie Roberson and Ben Sutton launched the station’s D class inshore lifeboat Blue Peter IV into calm conditions. When the crew arrived at Porthtowan, they discovered that it had been a false alarm and the first informant had been mistaken.
On heading back to the station, they were diverted by the Coastguard to attend a police related incident at Droskyn Point. They were stood down and were back on station very quickly.
Nick Marsh, volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager says; ‘We’d much rather someone called in what they thought was an emergency situation, which turned out to be a false alarm, than risk it becoming more serious. We’re glad that no-one was in danger and the crew were able to quickly get back to their day jobs.’
