Proceeds from last week’s Helston Fatstock Show have been presented to this year’s chosen charity.

The 2014 show president Martin Matthew chose Cancer Funding for Cornwall as the good cause to be supported through a raffle and auction of donated items.

A total of £611 was raised and on Monday, exactly a week after the show, a cheque for this amount was handed over to Gerry Fitter on behalf of the charity.

Margaret Eva, the show’s honorary secretary and treasurer, thanked all the local businesses that sponsored the show, saying: “That enables us to give this donation to charity.”

The 144th show was judged a particular success, with the highest number of entries for a number of years, including 22 cattle shown.

Proceedings took place at Franchis Farm, where they have done for the past few years, by kind permission of Bob Cowell.

Mrs Eva said: “As always, a very big thank you to Mr Bob Cowell for his venue, which makes the show possible. We’re very lucky to have a very dedicated, loyal committee to all muck in and help.”

The show featured the usual cattle and sheep, produce, floral art, home produce and photography, with classes for children and young farmers’ club members.
