One of Helston’s macebearers has been honoured with a town plaque as he stands down after almost two decades of dedication.
Paul Cook first took up the mace in May 1996 and since then has been a prominent figure at every civic occasion, including the annual mayor making ceremonies and civic parades.
He has been one of two macebearers, along with Fred Angove, that make up the mayoral party, together with the town beadle.
He is now retiring from the position after 18 years.
Helston’s mayor Mike Thomas said: “I felt I couldn’t let the situation go without presenting our very famous plaque.
“I’d like to thank you on behalf of mayors past and present for your service to Helston Town Council.”
He also thanked Mr Cook for his support and advice when he took up the office.
“When I first became mayor it was quite a daunting experience to know what to do. It’s people like yourself and Fred [Angove] who helped me,” he told Mr Cook.
