Christmas came early this week for two local organisations when they were presented with cheques from the proceeds of this year’s Mawnan Fun Run.

The event raised a record breaking £2,600 and the committee met at the Greenbank Hotel this week to present cheques for £1,300 each to Mawnan School PTA and the Falmouth Rotary Club Charity Fund.

The annual Fun Run, organised by Falmouth Rotary Club and held in September, was a huge success this year, with over 200 people of all ages taking part.

The money raised on the day was boosted by a donation of £350 from Shell and match funded by £700 from the Santander Foundation bringing the total to an “incredible” £2,600 which was split equally between this year’s beneficiaries.

Rod Allday, chairman of the Fun Run committee, who presented the cheques, said: “We are delighted at the success of this year’s event and overwhelmed at the amount of money raised. We are really pleased to present cheques to two such deserving beneficiaries and know that the money will be used to support a number of local projects. We are very grateful to all the local businesses and individuals who supported the event and helped to make it such a success.”
