At least three J Class yachts are set to compete at the J Class Falmouth Regatta from June 22 to 27 next year.

Lionheart, Ranger and Velsheda are all expected to be on the start line in the waters around Falmouth Bay, to race under JCA handicap rules.

The J Class Falmouth Regatta will open on Monday June 22, with racing from Tuesday June 23 until Saturday 27 June.

The J Class Falmouth Regatta will be hosted by RCYC Events Ltd, the operating company of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, and international race officer Rob Lamb will be responsible for all aspects of the racing with his SolentXtra team supported by members of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club.

Peter Visick and Robin Taylor from the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club said: “To see the return of the J Class is a great honour for the club.  With a history of hosting big boat classes since 1924, we are delighted the magnificent J Class yachts will once again grace the waters of Cornwall.  Our members will help provide total support for the event and all eyes will turn towards Falmouth in June of next year.”

Races are expected to be held in Falmouth Bay and along the surrounding coastline. Pendennis Point and Falmouth’s local beaches and headlands will provide ideal vantage points for spectators to see the fleet and follow the racing.

The yachts are expected to arrive around June 20 and will be moored at Pendennis Marina. Members of the public will be able to see the fleet and follow details of the racing at the race village in Event Square, where the prize giving will also take place.

The JCA said: “The J Class fleet is really looking forward to returning to Falmouth, which always offers a great welcome and has a long heritage with the class. Our key event aims are to enjoy competitive, close racing in the deep waters around Falmouth’s harbour, to be part of the town, and to enable as many people as possible to watch the racing.”
