Penryn has a new “master baker” after the winner of the Great Penryn Christmas Bake Off was announced following a competition on Saturday.

There was wide support for Bonnie Baldwin as she took the overall prize, with the baker’s hat and title of “Penryn’s Master Baker”, for her Christmas igloo cake.

Plenty of people turned up for the event, hosted by Ed Hartgill at bar Number 20, which was organised and decided by Dave Mason of Dave’s All Occassion Cakes, aided in the judging by town mayor Gill Grant.

Dave said: “It was a great success. We had entrants from all ages and all baking abilities and a steady stream of people came to show their support and admire the high standard of |creations throughout the day. The awards were brilliant and unique and we are really grateful to all the businesses that contributed their skills and time.

“We hope this will be the first of many Great Penryn Bake Off’s in the town and judging by the standard we saw on Saturday the bar has been set high.”

The top three cooks in each category were presented with a prize of a wooden spoon, decorated by local artists from Fannie and Fox, Tim Lake Ceramics, Papillon Rouge, Xtrospective and Countrywide Creatives.

As well as Bonnie who won the Christmas cake competition, Tash Bigos won the cup-cake category, Philippa Holden took the prize for the mince pies, the cake category was won by Betty, Florence and Emmie, and Felicia and Lacey Burrell scooped the winning wooden spoon for their gingerbread house.
