More than 40 decorated trees were twinkling on Sunday as All Saints’ Church opened its ninth annual Christmas tree festival.

The festival opened with a well attended service in the church, during which the Rev Christopher Goldsmith, Bishop of St Germans, switched on the lights.

Father Stephen Drakeley, vicar at All Saints, said: “It went well, people seemed to enjoy it, and we had a good number present. It was light hearted, enjoyable and great fun was had by all. The bishop enjoyed himself and was very pleased to be able to be there.”

The festival, which has grown in its nine years from having 16 to 40 trees, is in its penultimate year before the organisers take a break, Fr Drakeley said, due to the amount of effort required each year.

“It takes a lot of people a lot of time, as we have to start in July,” he said. “Next year will be quite a celebration.”

He added that he hoped visitors enjoy looking at the trees as much as people enjoyed putting the display together.

The Christmas trees will be on view at the church Monday to Saturday from 10am to 7pm, on Sundays from 2pm to 4pm, and Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve between 10am and 3pm. The church will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
