Helston and Porthleven have long held a – in the main friendly – rivalry and this year it will be played out on the football pitch.
This Boxing Day will see the return of the Mayor’s Cup, an annual tradition that is being resurrected.
It will see Helston Athletic FC taking on Porthleven FC in a game of football, which this year is being hosted by Porthleven at Gala Parc from 2pm on December 26.
The port’s mayor Daniel Williams will present the trophy to the winners at the conclusion of the match.
The contest was started by FE Strike, a former chairman of Porthleven Town Council. The trophy was found recently lying abandoned in a shed and it was decided to reinstate the competition.
If it proves as successful as expected, Helston will return the favour and host the match next year.
