There were two special guests at the switching-on of the Christmas lights in St Keverne this year.

Not only did Father Christmas make an appearance, but Olaf, the snowman from blockbuster film Frozen, was also on hand to greet young visitors.

The evening began at 6.30pm with the opening speech and the official switch on of the village lights by Nina and Darren Batley.

Children sang songs around the Christmas tree before Father Christmas arrived and headed to his grotto in the |village square.

St Keverne Band kept the festive atmosphere going by performing Christmas carols and a large raffle, for which tickets had been on sale for a number of weeks, was drawn. Top prizes included a hamper and cash, with lots of other items donated by businesses in the village and surrounding area.

Due to there being a very small committee organising the event this year, the Three Tuns pub offered to cook |burgers and sausages that were on sale in the square, helping people keep out the chill. Mulled wine, hot |chocolate and doughnuts were also available, as well as |popcorn and candy floss.

The evening also saw the winners of the best decorated house and business competition, and children’s drawing competition, being announced and prizes presented.
