Here is a little look back at the pictures that made the news in 2014.

JANUARY: High tides and strong winds brought delight to some people and misery to others, as tidal surges battered the Cornish coastline. Sightseers flocked to Porthleven and Mullion but the Coastguard warned people to stay safe.

FEBRUARY: It was a case of more of the same – bad weather. Ten boats were sunk in Porthleven when ferocious waves batterd the port.

MARCH: Joy Bosustow won a trophy for being the member gaining most points  in the art section of the Mullion Women’s Institute spring show.

APRIL: Described as the mainstay of Helston’s St Michael’s Primary School, secretary Olivia Blake retired from her post after 40 years. Her retirement was marked at a special assembly during which pupils sang her two songs and gave her farewell gifts.

MAY: Although the rain forced a few minor changes to proceedings, the 2014 Helston Flora Day was once again a huge success enjoyed by dancers and spectators alike.

JUNE: Helston celebrated the summer solstice in style with a party and entertainment. Ashley, Katy and Phoebe were among the hundreds who enjoyed the day.

JULY: Beryl Cullen won best exhibit award at Mullion’s 73rd annual horticultural show. The event was declared ‘an outstanding success’ attracting more than 720 entries.

AUGUST: The 12th annual Lismore Proms, featuring Helston Town Band and Helston Concert Brass attracted music lovers, merrymakers and flag wavers.

SEPTEMBER: Tina Kemp and Sheila Cuthbert were among those who supported a World’s Biggest Coffee event held in St Keverne in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

OCTOBER: Half-term got off to a spooky start for St Keverne School pupils who dressed up for Hallowe’en and attended a festive disco.

NOVEMBER: Remembrance Sunday parades were held and one-minute silences observed in Helston, at RNAS Culdrose and in the surrounding villages.

DECEMBER: Carter, a pupil of Porthleven Primary School, was among youngsters who staged an exhibition at Helston Museum about the English Civil War.
