The first of two pre-audition rehearsals for Falmouth Theatre Company’s summer production of The Wedding Singer will be held on Monday evening so anyone keen to follow in Adam Sandler or Drew Barrymore’s footsteps should go along.

The Hollywood duo starred in the 1998 film which was set in 1985 and told the tale of wannabe rock star and New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer, Robbie Hart, and the trials and tribulations of his love life and career.

Falmouth Theatre Company is hoping to capitalise on the popularity of the movie by staging the Cornish premiere of the stage show in June. The production will be directed and choreographed by Jo Tatham, who first came across the stage show while at university.

The theatre company put out a call for actors, actresses and back stage crew in November when it announced its decision to stage The Wedding Singer and is now hoping people will be enticed to the first pre-audition rehearsal on Monday. This will be held at the John Harris Rehearsal Rooms in Chapel Terrace, Falmouth, at 7.30pm and will give anyone interested a chance to meet the company and familiarise themselves with the show. The second pre-audition rehearsal will be held the following Monday at the same time.

The first audition, for the cast, will then be held at 7.30pm on January 26, and will be followed at 2.30pm on February 1 by the dance auditions. Rehearsals will then run on Monday evenings from 7.30pm during the first few weeks, Wednesdays will be later added for principals and dancers, and closer to opening night on Sunday afternoons from 2.30pm.

The Wedding Singer will be performed on June 11, 12 and 13 and then again on June 18, 19 and 20 at The Poly in Church Street.
