After widespread warnings of 'snowmaggedon' following weather alerts from the Met Office, Falmouth and most of Cornwall has woken up to a mild day with light winds and sunny skies.

There are reports of a little snow falling in the early hours of this morning, but with temperatures well above zero it did not stick around for long.

However we are not out of the woods yet, with the brighter interlude replaced by increasing amounts of cloud as heavy rain and gales or severe gales develop by late afternoon. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

It wery windy overnight with gales or severe gales, strongest over exposed coasts and hills. Rain will become heavy and persistent, clearing to the east by dawn with scattered showers following. Minimum Temperature 4 °C.

Last night did see some spectacualr tunder and lightning, with lightning strike on a property in Hayle last night blowing a hole in the building and tdestroying the family's television set.

Twelve firefighters from Camborne and Hayle were sent to the property just after 9.30pm after it was reported a hole had been blown in the television and there was a smell of burning in the property. On the crews' arrival, there was no fire but an inspection of the home revealed a hole had been blown in the building, Western Power was requested to attend the property to make the electrics safe and advice was given by firefighters to residents in the area before they left.
