Christmas 2014 may still be fresh in our minds, but a knitting enthusiast from Falmouth is appealing for volunteers to help her create a collection of festive jumpers which will be sold this coming December to raise money for her daughter’s charity.

It was in May last year that Ann Congdon, who is president of Penryn Rotary Club, embarked on her crusade to knit Christmas jumpers, but it wasn’t until late in the year that she recruited help so only nine pullovers were ready in time.

Most of these were sold from the Rotary stall at Falmouth Hotel’s Christmas fair, with the remainder snapped up after being put on display at Penwerris Stores. They raised £184 which has been donated to Project Primrose, a charity run by Ann’s daughter, Nicola, which supports an orphanage in South Africa.

Ann, of Langton Road, is determined to create more jumpers for next Christmas so she can raise even more money for the children at the orphanage. To this end, she is appealing for volunteers, preferably from the Falmouth and Penryn area, to help her.

“I just need some people to sit and knit jumpers,” she said. “I have got two helpers already, but would like more. I supply the patterns and the wool which I can deliver and then I can pick up the finished jumpers.”

Ann is even happy for people to knit just the simpler parts, such as the arms and the backs, as she will take on the complicated patterns on the front and then put the jumpers together.

Any knitters who would like to offer their services should call Ann on 0777 5920202.
