Helston Town Council still has its eye on Peacocks Lane, which has been the subject of much squawking in recent months.

The poor state of the lane off Coinagehall Street, with its potholes and general disrepair, has been on the agenda for close to a year now, but members have been prevented from making improvements due to confusion over ownership.

This all changed at the end of last year, when the council took on “general power of competence” status through town clerk Chris Dawson completing further training.

It means that although the owner of the lane – which runs from the private car park below Tyacke Road to the town centre – has still not been identified, the council can now take action.

Two quotes for the work have now been received and were due to be discussed in private at the end of last week.

Town centre regeneration officer Martin Searle said: “This is an important pedestrian way linking one of the busiest car parks with the town centre shops and the repairs will be of benefit to local people and businesses, as well as create |a better impression for |first-time visitors.”

Should it get the go-ahead, work is expected to be finished in one working day.
