The Flushing Community Flood Plan, which aims to protect properties and help the vulnerable, will be launched next Wednesday (January 28) at the Village Club in Coventry Road, but will depend on volunteers to make it successful.

The plan will be put into action when there is a high risk of flooding – such as during spring tides which coincide with low pressure weather system and adverse wind direction. The plan also highlights other risks such as vehicle movements compounding the effects of the flood, putting businesses and homes at even more risk, and it recommends emergency road closures to mitigate those problems.

The launch event, which starts at 7.30pm, will be attended by representatives from Mylor Parish Council, Cornwall Council, the Environment Agency and the police.

Anyone wishing to volunteer as a flood warden, or who wants to know more about the flood plan, should contact the local co-ordinator, Councillor Bob Bridges from Mylor Parish Council on 01326 373830.
