Money raised by the Natural Store in Falmouth through its Christmas raffle has been donated to Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank

The first prize, of a large hamper worth £80, was won by a local resident who wished to remain anonymous, and the second prize of a £20 Natural Store gift voucher was won by Sue Pryce-Jones, a regular visitor to Falmouth from Oxford.

Foodbank coordinator, Sarah Simons, said: “The most common cause of crisis are sickness, low income and benefit delays or changes. Clients can be referred from their support worker, doctor and various other multi agencies within the community.

“Donations such as the one made by the Natural Store will help greatly with the foodbank’s expansion.

“Without the support of our community and the time given by our volunteers we would not be able to feed local families and people in crisis and we are very grateful.”

Rob added: “With more and more people in the local area and the UK as a whole now struggling to find the money to feed themselves sufficiently, it is important communities come together in their show of support for those less fortunate themselves. We, as a food retailing business, see it as part of our community responsibility to contribute.

“We have a food bin in our store for our customers to deposit healthy food donations for the foodbank and our Christmas raffle in aid of the Foodbank proved a great success for the third year in the row.”

The Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank is based at the Highway Church in Penryn and is open between noon and 1pm, Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.
