An extra £11.3million will be invested in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly between 2016 and 2021, with the cash used to improve broadband, add extra buses and unlock access for developments between Camborne and Redruth.

The Government says that the cash is in addition to the £48.9m of funding committed by the Government on July 7, 2014.

Adding that over the lifetime of the deal (2015-2021), "up to 5,000 new jobs could be created, 7000 new homes built and that it has the potential to generate £160m public and private investment".

The additional proposed projects include:

Broadband: A project to take Cornwall and Isles of Scilly from 95% to over 99% fibre broadband connected, cementing it as the best connected rural place in the UK. The £1m investment will unlock a further £6m of funding from other sources including BDUK and Cornwall Council.

Rail: Creating a quality Night Riviera Sleeper experience through investment in lounges and changing facilities in Penzance, Truro and Paddington and improved parking facilities at Truro.

Truro: Funds seven new low floor buses in Truro to provide additional capacity for the city’s successful Park and Ride Scheme.

Redruth: Eight prioritised walking and cycling schemes requiring no further planning consent that will connect employment and residential sites. Also investment in the Tolgus and Barncoose junction improvement that will create a gateway between Redruth and Camborne, unlocking access for over 600 homes, 5,000sqm of commercial space, with links to the Kresen Kernow cultural project.

Bodmin: investment in enabling infrastructure to support growth The Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Growth Deal is part of a long term plan to devolve at least £12 billion from central government to local economies. The plan aims for every part of the country to be a motor of growth for the national economy – building on the strength of the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly area.

MP Sarah Newton said: "I am delighted that all our hard work has paid off with this welcome news. The popularity of the Park & Ride services continues to increase so the new buses are a welcome addition to the fleet. Staff at Treliske are using the Park & Ride more and more and when the new Carpark opens to the west of Truro, demand for the service will grow. Concerns have been raised with me by Truro councillors about air quality, so I very much hope that Cornwall Council will seriously consider electric buses.

"I am also very pleased to have secured the funding for upgrading the car park at Truro Station with a new improved surface and lighting. This will both enhance the experience of using the train as well as preventing accidents. Bike racks will be installed too.

"Access to the internet on the Maritime Line and extra cash to enable access to Superfast broadband in the difficult to reach homes and businesses that don't currently have access is most welcome too. I am regularly contacted by constituents who are still without broadband or who have very slow internet speeds. Huge progress has been made in Cornwall over the past few years, but I want to complete the job of getting my constituents connected.

"Finally, the development of sleeper passenger reception areas at Penzance, Truro and Paddington, complete the investment in the upgraded sleeper service. Travelling on the sleeper service, to and from Cornwall is not only essential for some local people but a great visitor experience. Leading tourism businesses have told me how excited they are about the upgraded service."
