A Budock comedian who had a leg amputated last year has raised over £750 for Penryn charity Legs4Africa with a sell-out stand-up performance.

Colin Leggo raised the money for the charity, which sends used prostheses to West Africa, when he returned to comedy at The Poly in Falmouth recently.

Colin's new show, Bits of Leggo, mixed jokes about Cornwall with home-made video clips and his amputation - a result of diabetes - and was well received.

He said: “I was extremely pleased with the amount raised on the night and was bowled over by peoples generosity.“I can't praise the work that the charity does highly enough. The amount of time, effort and personal finances that Legs4Africa have put in to making the charity work is outstanding, and I'm more than happy to do my little bit in order to help other amputees who are less fortunate than myself.

“We are already talking about doing further charity events which will be a fantastic thing to carry on, be it a comedy night, cabaret or even films.”

On January 21 Legs4Africa sent its latest shipment of 1,000 prosthetic legs, which cannot be reused in the EU, to The Gambia, where they will be donated to the mobility centre in Banjul's main hospital, and readapted to fit amputees.

Colin donated all of his profits from the gig to the charity and encouraged the audience to donate their change into one of the prosthetic leg collection shakers in the interval.

Phil Tunstall, director of Legs4Africa, said: ''Legs4Africa is a small charity run completely by volunteers, Colin's donation will go towards collecting and transporting mobility equipment to West Africa and make a huge positive difference to people's lives. Thanks Colin."
