A man has died after his car ended up in a ditch in St Day near Redruth this morning.

Police were called to the scene shortly before 11.30am this morning, (Thursday, February 5), with fire and ambulance service crews also called to the scene near Martin Rose auctions, on the way to United Downs.

Paramedics treated the 68-year-old male driver of the red Ford Fiesta, from Camborne, but he died at the scene.

His family have been informed.

The road at United Downs, Higher Goon Gumpus and Crofthandy Cuttoff is expected to be closed for some time while officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit carry out a forensic examination of the scene.

Highways have put diversions in place. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

Any witnesses to the collision, who have not yet spoken to investigators, are asked to call police on 101 quoting reference 195 of 5 February.
