Helston College students' The Snow Queen takes to the stage: PICTURES

The adaptation of the classic tale follows the story of Kai and Gerda, who are childhood friends that are torn apart by the terrible and magical Snow Queen.

She abducts Kai and takes him to her ice palace at the North Pole, promising him power and domination over men.

Gerda then sets out barefoot on the arduous journey to the North Pole, armed with nothing but her loyalty and integrity. Along the way she |is beset with perils and distractions, aided |by friendly animals and wise adults, but ultimately she has to find the courage to |continue from within.

The theme of the play is love, in the form of childhood innocence, triumphing over cynicism and despair.

Playing the roles of Gerda and Kai were May and Luca Gaspare, with Rosa Higgs as the Snow Queen, Matthew Railton as the Goblin King and Waide Cattell as Empress of the Sprites. See a full cast list below.

The story, which last year marked 170 years since its publication, has been adapted by Ben Oldfield into a script suitable for a school production.

The final performance will be this evening at 7.30pm at the south site hall of Helston Community College.
