Feel the love for flowers this Valentine’s weekend when Mawgan Church holds its latest daffodil festival.

Taking place from tomorrow (Saturday) until Monday, it is the 12th century church’s biennial celebration of the golden blooms.

Free to enter between 10.30am and 4.30pm each day, the display will feature thousands of daffodils arranged in different ways around the church and split into varieties.

Pupils from Garras Primary School will be getting involved, with a display of 56 paintings and poems on a daffodil theme.

Sponsors RH Scrimshaw and Sons Limited are once again providing the flowers and refreshments will be available in the form of pasties from Gear Farm Shop, rolls from Mawgan Stores to go with homemade soup on Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes, and juice from Helford Creek. These will be served in the Vyvyan Coach House, which has received a facelift for the occasion.

A programme of accompanying events will include Christine Robertson playing dulcimer and singing medieval and folk music on Saturday morning, Cornish male voice group Thraw’d Together on Saturday afternoon, classical guitarist Richard Collington and harpist Jade Hamzelou at lunchtime on Sunday and the Maen Voes Choir from St Keverne and Andrew Woods playing organ on Sunday afternoon.

For those interested in history and architecture there will be guided tours of the church. On Sunday evening at 5pm there will be a Celtic evening service when the guest preacher is Bishop Chris.
