Porthminster Beach has been named among Europe’s best rated beaches in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards – one of four Cornish beaches to be honoured.

Cornwall dominated the awards, with the duchy scooping the most awards of any county in the UK.

Porthminster Beach was named fifth best rated beach in the UK and eighteenth in Europe, while Perranporth Beach and Newquay’s Fistral Beach placed sixth and seventh respectively. Godrevy took twenty second place.

“In its third year, these awards recognise the best beaches in the UK and worldwide, based on the reviews and ratings from travellers around the globe,” said James Kay from TripAdvisor.

“What we may lack in all year round sun, the UK more than makes for in gorgeous coastline scenery. The glowing reviews that Cornwall’s beaches have received on TripAdvisor this year is further proof of that.”

Malcolm Bell, Head of Visit Cornwall said, "Those of us who are lucky enough to live in Cornwall love our beaches, as do millions of our regular visitors, but is it is fantastic to see our world class beaches being recognised and celebrated with a coveted TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award with four of our beaches gaining accolades making Cornwall the biggest wining county”

Woolacombe Beach in Devon took the title of number one beach in the UK and was also named fourth best rated beach in Europe and thirteenth best rated in the world. Weymouth Beach in Dorset was named second best rated beach in the UK and Wales’ Rhossili Bay took third place.
