The highest tides for 20 years have sparked flood warnings for the whole coast of Cornwall, with strong winds and large surf adding to the concern.

The warning is in place for Lizard Point to Gribbin Head including the tidal rivers Helford and Fal, Penryn, Flushing, St Mawes, Portscatho, Portloe, Portholland, Mevagissey and Par.

The warning also covers Lands End to Lizard Point including Mousehole, Newlyn, Penzance, Longrock, Marazion, and Praa Sands as well as The Rumps to Hartland Point including Port Quinn, Port Isaac, Port Gaverne, Flexbury, Widmouth Bay, Trebarwith Strand and Boscastle, Lands End to Chapel Porth including Sennen, St Ives, Carbis Bay, Lelant, Portreath and Porthtowan, and Chapel Porth to The Rumps inlcluding Trevellas, Perranporth, Newquay, Mawgan Porth, Porth and Polzeath but excluding the tidal River Camel

An Environment Agency spokesman said: "High tides may lead to localised flooding of low lying land on the tides throughout the period between Friday, February 20 until Sunday, February 22 inclusive.

"The current forecast shows that the most significant water levels are likely to occur on the morning tide of Saturday, February 21.

"Flooding may occur in your area up to 2-4 hours either side of high tide. We will monitor the situation and will update this information and issue further warnings as required."
