A Penryn pensioner was arrested on Wednesday following a report that he was seen with a rifle after an allegation of a vehicle being driven deliberately into another vehicle.
A police spokesman said: "At around 4.20pm on Wednesday 18th February officers attended Hanover Court in Trenance Road following a report of a vehicle being driven deliberately into another.
"A witness at the scene reported seeing a man allegedly with a rifle before driving away.
"Following enquires at around 6.00pm later the same day a 70 year old man was arrested in the Penryn area on suspicion of causing criminal damage."
No firearm was recovered.
He was later interviewed and released on policed bail until March 27 pending further enquires.
