The team behind last year’s experimental and successful live-streaming of Flora Day on the web is poised to do it again, but with some improvements in mind.

Wendy Radford-Gaby said: “While my initial idea last year was to simply place a web cam in our office window to show our clients what Flora Day was all about, it ended up being a last minute operation to showcase Helston to the world.

“After lots of frantic technical research and implementation, I was glad to see that it really worked. Immediately the wheels were in motion for a bigger, better live-stream for 2015.”

Last year, with help from Steve Hole from 3HW Architecture and Phil Radford from Anytime Booking, three cameras were placed at two locations - two on the roof of Barclay’s Bank and a further one next to the Guildhall.

“The response was truly incredible, with over 24,000 people tapping in to view Flora Day from all over the world,” said Wendy.

This year the team plans to position ten cameras around Helston’s streets to give a more complete live overview of the day.

They also hope to place a GPS tracker on Helston’s Mayor, Cllr Mike Thomas, so that people checking in on the web can immediately pinpoint where the dancers are at any time.

As with all good plans, this idea to showcase Flora Day to the world will need money.

“We are hoping to collect sponsorship from individuals and businesses to purchase and mount the cameras ready for the big day, with any surplus funds going to the Flora Day Association to help Helston’s Flora Day for years to come,” said Wendy.
