A woman has blamed fearing violence from her partner for driving while over twice the legal limit in Helston while having no insurance or licence.

Police noticed Rachael Gribble's driving at Helston at 3.30am on February 15 because of the car's erratic progress, meandering over the road.

She blamed the decision to drink drive his car to drive to The Lizard to see her father over a fear of violence from her partner.

When tested at a police station Gribble registered 89 mcg, more than twice the legal level.

Gribble, aged 25, of Trevenson Street, Camborne, gave them different details of herself at first, but later corrected this, and said she had taken her partner's car after an argument.

She had a police caution for being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a police officer.

Her solicitor Rob Eccleston said she had been in a relationship for seven years and there were three children. There had recently been difficulties in the relationship, and she had been subjected to domestic violence in the past, for which she had had hospital treatment.

On the day of the offences there was an argument with her partner, and fearing violence, she fled from the house to drive to her father.

Gribble pleaded guilty to drink driving, driving without insurance and without an appropriate licence.

Mr Eccleston said she was seeking help with an alcohol problem. She was trying to reconcile the relationship with her partner, who was taking anger management classes.

Gribble was fined £110 with £105 costs and surcharge and banned from driving for 22 months.
