Two new members have been welcomed into Helston Lizard Rotary Club.

Henry Dunstan and Carlton Real were introduced to the club by president Edwin Lawrance at the last meeting.

Mr Real grew up in Mawgan and attended Garras CP, Mullion School and Helston School Sixth Form.

After a brief spell as a motorcycle mechanic with Helston Motorcycle Centre he joined the Cornwall Ambulance Service in 1986 where he served for 28 years.

His operational roles included Ambulance, RRV Car, Motorcycle and ten years as a paramedic on Cornwall Air Ambulance.

In 2000 Mr Real was awarded UK Paramedic of the Year. For the last ten years he has been an Emergency Care practitioner for the Out of Hours service run by SERCO Health.

He has recently taken on a new job and is training to be a search and rescue paramedic with Bristow Helicopters, which is due to take over the contract from the Royal Navy.

He already serves as a paramedic with the Royal Air Force Reserves, 4626 Aeromedical Evacuation (AE) Squadron at RAF Brize Norton and currently holds the rank of corporal. He has served as part of the Medical emergency response team on Chinook helicopters.

Mr Dunstan grew up at Trannack and went to Trannack Primary School and Helston School.

From there he completed an engineering apprenticeship at J&F Pool, Hayle, working here from 1976 to 1989 before starting his own motor vehicle repair business.
