Children with hearing difficulties from schools in Helston, Porthleven, Falmouth and Penryn were able to find out more about new technology and share their experiences when a very special bus stopped for the day.

The Listening Bus paid a visit to Porthleven Primary School, which |played host to youngsters from the surrounding area.

Run by the national Children’s Deaf Society, the bus contains special |equipment all designed to make life easier and more rewarding for people with hearing difficulties.

A total of eight students from Porthleven Primary School, St Michael’s School in Helston, Marlborough School in Falmouth and Penryn College took part in workshops on the bus.

These included looking at the new technology available to help them, such |as flashing door bells, alarm clocks designed to go under their pillow and the ability to Bluetooth music straight from an iPad into a hearing aid.

Later on the pupils from year five at Porthleven joined the children, including Pawel from their year group, to look |around the bus in a bid to raise awareness of the challenges facing people with learning difficulties.

The sessions were run by Kerrie Ross and Jamie Chivers, who is profoundly |deaf himself.

Charlene Bastedo, from Porthleven School, said it was nice for the pupils to forge links with other children from different schools.

She added: “They loved it. The child |that I work with just thought it was brilliant. And that a deaf male was leading the session was really inspirational for |him.”
