The latest draft of the new Helston town map which is to be mounted around the town at a cost of £7,500 has gone on public display.

The map, copies of which it is hoped will be installed at six locations in time for the peak visitor season which starts at the end of May, will be on show at the Helston Museum before being moved to the art gallery.

Martin Searle, the town centre regeneration officer, said: “The project partners would be grateful if you could make us aware of any glaring errors or omissions before the proof is finalised and sent to the printers.”

He added that at this stage in the process, the group was not looking for recommendations for wholesale changes to the design.

The map is based on a drawing by local artist Hermione Mills, with graphic design work by Rose Robinson, and will show some of the town’s main attractions, including Helston Museum, Coronation Park and the Penrose Estate. The project to install the new graffiti resistant maps will cost an estimated £7,500, with £2,000 coming from Helston Town Council section 106 funds, and the boards will be put in place at Horse and Jockey Lane, The Guildhall, Tyacke Road car park, the Town Centre car park, The Old Cattle Market car park, and The Fairground Car Park.

The map went on display in the Drill Hall at Helston Museum on Monday, and will remain there until today (March 25) before being relocated to the art gallery on the first floor of the museum.
