A group of student protestors waving placards and chanting slogans formed a counterpoint to the formal installation of Dawn French as Falmouth University's new chancellor this morning.
The arts students, led by protest organiser Alex Falconer, waved banners and chanted slogans such as "yes to Dawn, no to cuts" and "school of arts not school of profits" as they waited for the comedienne outside King Charles Church in Church Street.
The group is protesting the decision by senior management at the university to close the contemporary arts course, citing lack of demand and profitability, as well as the fact that the university claims to want a sustainable portfolio while paying six figure salaries to senior management.
