Councillor Rowenna Brock, who represents the Boslowick ward on Falmouth Town Council, has joined the Labour Party and has ditched her status as an independent.

Announcing her change of affiliation at last week’s meeting of the town council, Mrs Brock said she was content that her constituents in Boslowick would not be disadvantaged by her decision to join the Labour Party.

“In fact,” she said, “they will not be represented by a councillor who can wield greater influence on their behalf. As the Labour Party’s profile has increased and policy proposals become clearer as we approach a general election, it has become apparent to me that the Labour Party are now absolutely in line with the manifesto on which I stood.

“I will continue to work hard and fight for the benefit of my constituents in Boslowick and the town of Falmouth as a whole.”

Mrs Brock was elected onto the town council in 2013 and is currently chair of its licensing sub-committee. A resident of Falmouth since a child, she attended Tremough Convent and then Penryn School before studying for her A levels at Truro College.

An apprenticeship followed before she went on to study primary education at Birmingham City University. She stayed in the city teaching until 2008 and after a spell teaching in Eritrea, East Africa and travelling extensively, Rowenna returned to Falmouth in 2010 where she now lives with her husband. She is now PA to Nigel Carpenter, proprietor of the St Michael’s Hotel.
