The Camborne fundraising group for Marie Curie in Cornwall have totted up the total from recent efforts, with a fantastic £10,438 raised to help fund the charity's work.

This group of volunteers formed to raise funds for Marie Curie in 2013 and have been busy with the Great Daffodil Appeal, Marie Curie’s biggest campaign, coordinating collections and giving out daffodil pin badges in the Camborne and Redruth area.

They also run events such as the recent 'Race Night' at the Rosewarne Manor, Hayle, where over £700 was raised.

Christine Chalkley, chair of the group, said: "After doing our first collection for Marie Curie, Roger, the group’s secretary, and I went along to a meeting. Hearing about all the good work Marie Curie nurses do the next step was to become involved with the Camborne group which was just being set up.

"Although we are small we have formed a strong team with different strengths and become good friends as well. The plus is having fun organising events.'

The charity Marie Curie offers a home nursing service to people with a terminal illness in order for them to remain in their homes in their last weeks and days.

Ceri Crowther, community fundraiser for Marie Curie in Cornwall said: "We would like to say a really big thank you to all the group members from Marie Curie. Their efforts will go a long way to fund local nursing to support people living with terminal illness and their families in Cornwall.”
