RNLI lifeguards rescued a man and a dog who had scrambled onto the rocks after they were cut off by the tide at Watergate Bay near Newquay yesterday afternoon.

The lifeguards spotted 32 year old German visitor Georg Moht and his dog stuck on the rocks on Watergate Bay beach with fast incoming tides late yesterday afternoon.

RNLI lifeguard Nicholas Pendreich made his way over to the man’s location on the rescue water craft (RWC) before returning to shore to pick up his colleague Tom Houghton.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "As they returned back on scene, Tom waded chest deep through the water, picked up the dog and carried the animal back to the beach.

"The pet was left at the lifeguard unit as the lifeguards returned to the gentleman where they decided the safest way to bring him back to shore was on the RWC.

"The 32 year old visitor was given a lifejacket by the lifeguards and safely brought back to beach where he was reunited with his pet."

Mr Moht was checked over on the beach and given a blanket to warm up, and was then given safety advice by the lifeguard team, before thanking the lifeguards for their help and leaving the beach with his partner and pet.
