A Falmouth businessman is hoping to bring a little happiness to the lives of terminally ill children with a donation of bicycles to the Children’s Hospice South West.

Derek Heelis, the owner of Falmouth Cycles, will present the bikes to representatives of the hospice at the South West Cycle Sports and Urban Downhill event at the Penryn Campus on Sunday, April 19, where there will also be fundraising activities to support the work of the hospice.

Derek said: “We’re keen to encourage disabled and disadvantaged children, and help them enjoy the benefits of riding a bike; and their siblings as well.”

He is encouraging as many people as possible to come down and watch the show, which will involve a bike race, bunny hop competition, and urban downhill.

The show starts at 10am and is free to enter, with any donation to the hospice gratefully received and the event is open to all.

Mary Murfin, community fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West said “On behalf of all of the staff and families at CHSW I would like to thank Falmouth Cycles and Derek Heelis for being so generous in donating these bikes to us. We are so grateful for the generosity shown by this local business and I have no doubt the bikes will be put to good use at our Little Harbour hospice.”
