Proposed lighting for Peacocks Lane in Helston may not be enough to keep residents safe when they are most at risk.
Speaking during a discussion of solar powered lighting which the town council is hoping to install, mayor Mike Thomas said: “The time for solar is so limited. The time that we want light there is midnight, that’s when people are most at risk.” Town centre regeneration officer Martin Searle told the council that he had been assured that the lights would last for at least five hours, “even in the darkest months of winter.”
He added that although there was a three phase supply on one of the walls of the lane, it would not be simple to make a connection, as it would have to be traced back to a box within the lane, and the cost would be “quite astronomical,” at £3,000.
