The Helston Flora Horse Show went off with a leap as crowds travelled to Nansloe from the local area and from further afield to witness the myriad of different horses and ponies taking part in the show.

The equestrian event takes place every year just before Helston Flora Day. Horse rider Lesley Rose organised the show with husband Frank and friend David Martin, who is a horse breeder. She said: "We had a really good turn out this year, a lot better than last year. The weather was kinder to us this time round, so a lot more people came out and supported it.”

British Show Jumping classes, showing classes, riding hunter, mountain and moorland, lead rein, BSJA show jumping classes, and pony classes, were some of the equestrian competitions that filled the whole day event.

When asked about what the highlight of the show was for her, Lesley said: “We had a new gate jumping competition. We didn’t have loads of entrances for it because it was something new but people seemed to really enjoy it. Hopefully we will get more entrances for that one next year.”

Winners of each individual class were then entered into the Supreme Championship of the whole show, which Rebecca Williams, from the Lizard, won on her coloured horse, Time Bunditt. The Reserve Supreme was won by young Megan Ruberry on her pony, Chywoon Valentino.

The Helston Flora Horse Show began during World War II to raise money for the Red Cross. Today, however, it is not a charity fundraising event, it is run not-for-profit, out of love for putting on a good show. “I want to say a very big thank you to everyone who helped out,” said Lesley.
