Penryn Arts Festival returns this year with even more acts to offer as it sprawls over the bank holiday weekend from Friday to Monday.

The organisers of the mostly free festival have arranged performances, installations, displays and workshops throughout the town centre, from Exchequer Quay to Trelawney Park, via the site of Glasney College, which is marking its 750th anniversary.

As part of the festival, artists Simon Persighetti and Katie Etheridge will be hosting a weekend of events called In Polsethow Shall Habitations, or Marvelous Things, be Seen, on Glasney Field, with a historical talk on Friday evening, various walks on Saturday and Sunday including a retracing of the old college walls and a reading from the Cornish Ordinalia, as well as a workshop on writing, and a Cornish dance lesson.

Artist duo Zierle and Carter will return to the festival, with their latest performance piece Tree Whispers – Turning the Outside In opening in someone's home in Glasney House on Quay Hill on Saturday morning.

Howl Coffee shop will host the Howl Fringe events on Saturday including an alternative folk performance, Dada poetry, and politically driven performance art.

The coffee shop will also play host on Friday to the first part of the Penryn People Project, which will continue in Penryn Museum on Saturday and the Kings Arms on Sunday, and will tell the story of past, present and future inhabitants through poetry, spoken word, music and film.

The town hall will host Baroque musical The Imperfect Pearl on Friday, with tickets costing £8, and the opening of two exhibitions: They Told Me A Tale exploring museum artefacts and The History Laboratory showing Falmouth University students work responding to discoveries from the museum.

On Sunday, Trelawney Park will host the I Fought the Lawn all-day music festival, featuring acts including the Red Chords and Hedluv and Passman, as well as a day of swashbuckling workshops, with Miracle Theatre's A Magnificent Hoedown, and on the Monday will be the site of family arts festival CreativiTEA in the park.

Galleries and studios throughout the town, including Malcolm Sutcliffe Glass Gallery, Lowe-Holland Gallery, Fannie and Fox and Jubilee Wharf and Warehouses, will hold workshops, open studios and demonstrations all weekend.

There will be many other workshops, performances and exhibitions throughout the weekend, including live music and art at the Thirsty Scholar's second annual cider and ale festival and street performers around the town centre.
