TRURO and Penwith College has unveiled its bright new running shirt to celebrate this year’s 25th anniversary ROC 5K charity fun run.

With more than 300 participants already registered for the event taking place in Truro on the evening of Thursday, June 11, it may actually breach its 400 participant limit.

The funds raised by The ROC 5K will help the charity ROC support local people with learning disabilities who take part in the charity’s vibrant social club based at Truro College. The club, one of the largest of its kind in the county, is entirely dependent on voluntary donations.

The high quality, technical running shirt features the logos of all 28 corporate partners, including Truro College which is one of the major sponsors. It includes The ROC 5K event logo which was designed by MPAD. A vivid bright yellow was chosen for this special year and to reflect the ROC logo and the intention is to take a different colour from ROC’s logo each year.

The event entry fee includes the running shirt and post event refreshments. The shirts are delivered to participants when they register so that all runners wear the same shirt on race day.

College Head of Business Tamsyn Harris said: ‘We are working with ROC and it is not too late to enter as an individual, teams or business. On the day, the college will be involved not just with many people running but also providing staging, music and dance for the warm up and instructors and physios! One of our governor’s, BBC Radio’s Daphne Skinnard, is the event MC. With so much from the support from the community, including Skinner’s Betty Stogs, this event will be huge fun.’

College sportsmaker Julian Wills said: ‘We are delighted to be supporting The ROC 5K run again this year. Many of our key values are reflected in the work of this charity, such as equality of access, providing quality activities and promoting a culture of physical activity. This year, many more students who have learning and other disabilities are taking part in the event.’

‘We’re delighted with the response to this year’s event – the centrepiece of ROC’s 25th anniversary year. To walk, jog or run The ROC 5K is much more than simply raising vitally needed funds. It’s about taking a stand - as an army of yellow - for an inclusive Cornwall, and challenge anything which undermines this. But please don’t leave it to the last week; off line entries attract an extra charge.’

The ROC 5K run will take place on Thursday, June 11 from 5.30pm with runners coming under starter’s orders at 6.30pm. It will start and finish at Truro’s Lemon Quay, take a city centre loop, before taking runners along the city’s beautiful river side and around Boscawen Park.
