An afternoon of singing and sweet treats took one Falmouth charity groups fundraising for the year up over the £1,000 mark last week.

The Falmouth Support Group of Cornwall Hospice Care enjoyed a programme of music provided by the children of St Mary's School on Wednesday at the Penmer Manor Hotel, as 56 pupils and two teachers provided entertainment before the guests tucked into a varied spread of cakes and tea.

Jane Frapwell, one of the organisers, said: "We were quite short on our helpers but it went extremely well .

"We have a very good rapport with the school... the children were so well behaved and we lay on refreshments for them, the hotel let us take in our things and take over.

"Everybody that attended was really, really pleased: a very relaxed, very good afternoon."

She added that it was nice for a lot of those who attended, as many of them had grandchildren or nieces and nephews at the school, and it gave them an opportunity to see them sing."

The afternoon raised at least £260, meaning the group has raised over £1,000 in just five months, with one event held each month.

The next event will be a garden party on June 18 at the Penmorvah Hotel in Budock , with refreshments and garden games including croquet on the lawn, and Jane said they "just need the sun."
