Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them after a major collision on the A30 near Truro left seven people injured on Friday, May 22.

A Volkswagen Polo driven by an 18 year-old woman from the Wadebridge area and a Nissan Cabstar driven by a 42 year-old man from the Newquay area were involved in the collision, which occurred on the single carriageway section of the A30 between the Chiverton Cross roundabout and the Chybucca interchange at around 4.15pm.

Firefighters had to cut three people from the cars, and all seven people who were travelling in them were taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, with one person later transferred to Derriford, and all are now said to be in a stable condition.

The road was closed whilst a specialist forensic investigation of the scene took place. The Cornwall air ambulance was also called to the scene, along with fire and ambulance crews.

Police from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit are appealing for any witnesses of the incident to contact them by phoning 101 quoting log number 541 of 22nd May 2015.

Three people had to be cut free from vehicles in a rescue lasting more than an hour following a crash on the A30 near Chiverton Cross on Friday afternoon.

Fire crews were called at around 4.30pm to the collision just east of Chiverton Cross, and two fire engines from Truro, on from Hayle, and a rescue tender from Camborne arrived to find two people had already been released.

Two more casualties had been released by 5pm, with crews using crash rescue equipment to save two who were still trapped.

At 6.10pm, a fire service spokesperson reported: "All the casualties have now been released and fire crews are making the vehicles safe. Fire crews released three casualties using crash rescue equipment."
