Students from Falmouth University are working with SCSL Health, a cutting edge, medical software company based in Camborne, to develop an innovative diabetes prototype to improve outcomes for diabetes patients.

The Innovation Challenge is part of a collaboration module at the university which partners students with local, national and global companies/organisations even as far away as China. Second year graphic design and digital media students were given the brief to design an app for Type two diabetes patients to encourage their motivation to "self-manage" their condition. There were several exciting concepts put forward, but the four most innovative and dynamic concepts were presented to the SCSL health discovery team recently.

Michael Barritt, managing director of SCSL Health, said: "We have been so impressed with the motivation and talent of the students, and were very excited to see them present their ideas. It’s a unique opportunity for us to be able to take a fresh look at improving outcomes and choice for patients living with diabetes.”

Darren Whittington, senior lecturer at Falmouth University, added: "We are really pleased to be working with SCSL on this project. It enables the university to stay at the frontline of the the industry, while allowing students to use their talents in lateral ways, and to provide a genuinely useful solution."
