THE Royal Cornwall Hospital is hosting its second annual Walk for Wards, which will take place at Trebah Garden in Mawnan Smith on Sunday, June 14.

Walk for Wards is a national event that allows people to raise money for their local hospital. Jessica Silye, fundraising manager at RCHT, hopes people of all ages will lace up their walking boots and join in. “Walk for Wards is a fantastic opportunity to raise money for the general fund of the Royal Cornwall Hospital's Charity, or for a specific ward or department that is particularly meaningful to you or your friends and family," she said. "It’s also a great day out and the garden and the coastal scenery are simply stunning.”

One young walker already signed up is four-year-old Erin Molloy, who'll be completing the walk with two-year-old sister Isla and mum and dad, Matt and Louise. Erin and Isla are both currently being seen by specialist paediatric cardiologists who are monitoring them to see if they might have inherited a dangerous heart condition which almost killed their dad.

Louise said: "We all want to show our gratitude for the care given to Matt and to our daughters and are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the amazing cardiology team at RCHT."

Once people have registered for the walk, they will receive free entry to Trebah Garden for the whole day, as well as a cream tea to enjoy after their stroll. On the day, there will be two customised routes to choose from - a family-friendly, cowboy themed toddler trot suitable for buggies, which children are encouraged to dress up for, or a challenging hike which includes coastal path views and exclusive entry back into the gardens. Registration opens at 10 am, the challenge walk begins at 10.30am and the family walk at 11am. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of £15.
