Children from the Little Lizards Children's Centre which adjoins Landewednack School at The Lizard, visited a supermarket recently as part of their "food to fork" learning topic.

Upon their arrival at Tesco in Helston, the children were greeted by staff member Nicky who showed them around the store and into the bakery department where they made their own bread with baker Paul. The youngsters were given aprons and chefs' hats before kneading their dough and shaping it into a round loaf. They were able to choose any toppings before watching it go into the oven.

While the bread was baking the children and the Little Lizards staff members were shown the fresh fish and cheese counter where they watched fishmonger Alun fillet a salmon before trying various types of fish and cheese -some they liked and some they didn't.

After a fruity treat provided by the store, the children went back to watch their bread coming out of the oven. Before leaving the store they were given the loaf they had a made, a fresh donut and a goody bag to take home.

Senior nursery nurse, Suzanne Ely, has thanked everyone at Tesco for the hospitality shown towards the children, who all thoroughly enjoyed their time in the store.
