The Green and Clean Camborne Group held its second organised event to clean up the environment last Sunday, June 7 2015.

Twenty volunteers took to the streets in locations all over Camborne to pick up litter and weed the streets. Locations stretched from Tuckingmill to Treswithian and Pengegon to North Roskear as well as trouble spots in the town centre. The group collected 22 bags of litter in total and five bags of weeds.

Chairman of Green and Clean, Cornwall Councillor Paul White was delighted to note an improvement in the overall cleanliness of the town. “Given the size of the area we covered, it was good to see there were fewer problems than in the past. There was hardly any fly tipping and much less litter than the last time we held an event. I think this is due to the efforts of individual members of the Group who have adopted specific areas and streets to keep them clean and tidy and go out every week.

"I am really pleased that there has been such a big improvement in such a short space of time; the whole parish is looking much better. Weeds are a major problem though and with the Cornwall Council cuts there will be no spraying of weeds. Maybe in the future the Town and Parish Councils will consider taking it on but until then, I will try to find ways to clean up the streets as best as I can along with my Volunteers. I know we shouldn’t have to do this but sadly that’s the way it is”.

Camborne Town FC manager, Joshua Baker joined the volunteers for the first time and was pleased to do his bit for the town. “Myself and other members of the club committee thoroughly enjoyed volunteering as part of the Green and Clean Camborne initiative. The campaign’s aim to improve the quality of the local environment in Camborne is undoubtedly important. The event itself was extremely well organised by Councillor Paul White, with all the equipment needed provided. As a club we would urge local residents to get involved in the campaign if they have an hour or two to spare. I myself have also volunteered to conduct a regular litter pick of my local neighbourhood to help keep it clean and tidy”.
