The sun shone on an afternoon filled with strawberries and cream and gentle sounds of croquet mallets during a genteel fundraiser on Thursday afternoon.

Members of the Falmouth Support Group of Cornwall Hospice Care got together at the Penmorvah Manor Hotel in Falmouth for a garden party as they strove to raise more money to support the charity's work at its two centres in Hayle and St Austell.

As well as lawn games and a treat of strawberries and cream, kindly supplied by the hotel and by Rodda's, the party offered visitors a go at the bran tub, the chance to win a prize with a raffle or tombola, and several guessing games.

The group's chair, Chrisine Morris, said: "We've had about 60 people here, it's been an absolutely fantastic day.

"We're a small friends of group, we raise between £25,000 to £30,000 each year, by putting on one event each month."
