JOURNALISM students have walked away with awards following Falmouth University's very own version of the Pulitzers - the Falitzers.

Staff and students gathered, along with media industry professionals, at a red carpet ceremony at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth to celebrate the best output in the current academic year from the journalism course.

The delighted winners picked up trophies, cash prizes and work placements with renowned publications and local media outlets.

The award for best feature went to Sam Moore, who won a work placement at FHM (edited by Falmouth graduate, Joe Barnes). Best news story, winning a work placement at the Packet, was taken by Natalie Roberts, while Stephanie Toms won best blog, winning a work placement at Pirate FM.

The Faltizers Star award was conferred on Corey Richards, editor of the Falmouth and Exeter student magazine Flex and the coveted award of Student Journalist of the Year went to Rebecca Hand, who takes on a work placement at another local paper.

Rebecca said: "I was really surprised that I won as there are so many talented journalists on my course. It's a lovely feeling to know that all my hard work was rewarded and didn't go unnoticed. My future plans are a couple of internships, then hopefully a move to London. Studying at Falmouth has been the best three years of my life. It's a beautiful, vibrant place and the University is amazing. I'm very sad to be leaving."
