A group of fundraisers are holding a sponsored walk from St Austell to Tresillian to raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care.

Walkers will be leaving the charity's Mount Edgcumbe Hospice to head to the Wheel Inn, where there will be an an auction in memory of Antony Povey, a local resident who was cared for by the hospice in the final weeks of his life.

Zoe Tullett, one of the event organisers, said Antony, 42, was "a vibrant, young, loving member of our community," who lost his battle with cancer in March, "and his final wish to his closest friends was that we as a community raise some money in aid of the hospice where he spent his final weeks."

She said: "Ant said that the care he received at Mount Edgcumbe was second to none, it was a place which cared not just for Ant, but also for his family and friends. These facilities cannot continue without support and donations from the public."

The event will start on Sunday, July 19, at 12pm.
